Crystal clear yet healthy pool water.
Clean pool water is key:
Key parameters for health and safety.
Do you dream of a refreshing swim in perfectly clean water? You need to know that the quality of the water in your pool has a direct impact on the health and comfort of all bathers. Negligence in this area can lead to unpleasant irritations and even more serious infections. Therefore, to ensure the safety and enjoyment of your pool, regular monitoring of key water quality indicators is absolutely essential.
pH value: the foundation of healthy pool water.
The first and most important parameter you need to pay attention to is the pH level of the water. Why is it so important? The correct pH affects the comfort of bathers and the effectiveness of disinfectants. The ideal pH values are between 7.0 and 7.4.
- Too high pH (above 7.4): The water becomes alkaline. Users may experience skin and eye irritation, and chlorine (and other disinfectants) loses its effectiveness significantly. This makes the pool susceptible to algae and bacteria growth, despite the addition of chemicals. In addition, it can promote the precipitation of scale and sediment, which weakens the performance of filters and damages pool surfaces.
- Too low pH (below 7.0): The water becomes too acidic. This can lead to corrosion of metal pool equipment, such as ladders, pumps and heating systems. Acidic water is also an irritant to the skin and eyes, and can damage grout and tiled surfaces.
Maintaining a stable pH is essential for optimal chlorine performance and bathers’ comfort.
Chlorine level: Keeper of cleanliness and disinfection.
The second key parameter is the chlorine content of the water, the most popular disinfectant. Chlorine effectively destroys bacteria, viruses, fungi and algae that could grow in the pool. The optimal concentration of free (active) chlorine is between 0.2 and 1.0 mg per liter of water.
- Insufficient chlorine: If the chlorine level is too low, the water is not properly disinfected. This increases the risk of infections (e.g., ear, eye, skin infections) and promotes rapid algae growth, making the water cloudy and green.
- Excessive chlorine: Too much chlorine, although it kills contaminants, can be an irritant to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. It often causes a characteristic “chlorine smell,” which is actually a signal that there are too many chloramines (combinations of chlorine with organic pollutants) in the water, rather than chlorine itself. It can lead to allergic rashes and feelings of dry skin.
Remember that pool water “uses up” chlorine, especially on hot days, with a large number of bathers and during precipitation. Regular replenishment is key.
Coagulation: the secret to crystal clear water.
Despite regular chlorination and maintenance of the correct pH, you will sometimes notice that the pool water is not perfectly clear, but slightly cloudy. This is because the pool filter, even the best one, is not able to catch all microscopic particles of pollutants, such as pollen, cosmetic residues or organic fines.
It is at this point that coagulation (flocculation) comes to the rescue. A coagulant is a special agent that acts as a “magnet” for these tiny particles. It causes them to combine into larger flakes that become large enough to be retained by the filtration system. Thanks to this process, the water in your pool becomes crystal clear and sparkling, which significantly increases the comfort and aesthetics of swimming. Regular use of coagulant is the key to achieving the effect of a sheet of water that no luxury hotel would be proud of.
How to effectively control chlorine and pH levels?
Fortunately, controlling these parameters is simpler than you think! There are many devices on the market that allow you to quickly and accurately measure key indicators:
- Handheld testers (e.g., strip or tablet): This is an economical and easy-to-use solution. Simply dip a strip or add a tablet to a water sample and compare the color with the scale. They are ideal for quick, daily checks.
- Electronic control and measurement devices: They offer higher precision and often digital readouts. They are more advanced and allow for more accurate monitoring.
Opt for automation and enjoy carefree relaxation.
For those who value maximum comfort and time savings, the most convenient solution is modern systems for automatic regulation of water parameters. These advanced devices not only monitor the quality of water on an ongoing basis, but also automatically correct any deviations from the norm by dosing the appropriate amounts of chemicals.
With such systems, you can forget about daily measuring and manual dosing of chemicals. You get the highest quality of pool water 24/7, which translates into a safe and hygienic pool, and you can enjoy relaxation without unnecessary worries.
You will find all the above products, from simple testers to advanced automatic systems and, of course, coagulants, in our store. We provide professional advice and a wide selection of solutions tailored to your needs.
